About
Liye and Wulong Mountain (里耶—乌龙山风景名胜区) is a national park of China (ninth batch, designated by the State Council in 2017), located in Liye Town, Longshan County, Xiangxi, Hunan.
The area is in Longshan County, Xiangxi Prefecture, in northwest Hunan next to Chongqing. It is made up of several sections: Liye, Bamian Mountain, Wulong Mountain Grand Canyon, Luota and Xichehe, with a total area of about 270 sq km. It was formerly the Pidu River scenic area and took its present name in 2003.
Liye Town stands on the You River. The Liye ancient city site dates from the Warring States to Han period, and in 2002 more than 30,000 Qin-dynasty bamboo and wooden slips were found in an old well, official papers of Qianling County and an important source on Qin administration. The Wulong Mountain area has canyons and cliffs, Luota has karst stone forest and caves, and Xichehe is a Tujia town that keeps its old character.
Travel tips
About 1.5 hours by road from Longshan town to Liye; the Wulong Mountain Grand Canyon is about 34 km from Longshan town. The old city takes half a day and the canyon half to a full day, so allow 2 days. Spring and autumn suit best; distances in the hills are long, so a car is best.
