About
Rongjiang in south-east Guizhou is a national park of Miao hill villages and Dong riverside villages along the Duliu River.
It is in the seventh batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2009.
Travel tips
Getting there: Rongjiang is in Qiandongnan, Guizhou. Rongjiang station is on the Guiyang-Guangzhou high-speed line, about two hours from Guiyang, with trains from Guangzhou and Guilin as well. Villages are reached by road from the county town.
Dong village: Sanbao is a large, well-known Dong village with drum towers, wind-and-rain bridges and timber houses; Dong grand song is often performed here.
Miao village: Baibei is a Miao village with traditional costume and lusheng pipes, where you can see houses and crafts.
Village football: Rongjiang is known for its village football league, Cunchao. The town is crowded in the season, so book rooms early.
Time: The county town and two villages need one and a half to two days.
Season: Spring and autumn are best. Summer is hot and rainy, winter damp and cold. Miao and Dong new year festivals are mostly in autumn and winter.
Where to stay: The county town has plenty of lodging, and some villages have homestays.
Caution: Ask before photographing people. Mountain roads are slippery in rain, so drive slowly.
