About
Longchuan (龙川风景名胜区) is a national park of China (ninth batch, designated by the State Council in 2017), located in Shangzhuang Town, Jixi County, Xuancheng, Anhui.
The scenic area is at Longchuan Village, Shangzhuang Town, Jixi County, Xuancheng, Anhui, and centres on a Huizhou-style village and the Hu clan ancestral hall, laid out along the Longchuan stream.
The Hu ancestral hall was first built in the Song and rebuilt in the Jiajing period of the Ming. Its carved wood and stone are fine, it is a leading example of the Huizhou ancestral hall, and it is a national key monument. At the village entrance stands the Ming-dynasty 'Yishi Shangshu' memorial arch. Longchuan was the home of the Ming official Hu Zongxian.
Travel tips
One to two hours by road to Jixi from Huangshan, Xuancheng or Hangzhou, then on to Shangzhuang. Half a day covers the village and hall. Spring and autumn are better, and the stone paths are slippery in the rainy season.
