About
The Meiling–Tengwang Pavilion scenic area lies in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi, 15 km from the city centre, 150 km².
It is in the fifth batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2004.
Travel tips
Mount Mei: part of the Jiuling range, with Lion Peak, Shixi Valley, Panxian Cave and the Tongyuan Gang cascades. It is a favourite summer retreat for people from Nanchang.
Walking: paths link the main sights, and the area is large. If you do not want to walk far, use a park bus or a car.
Time: the pavilion takes about two hours and Mount Mei half a day to a day. Together they need at least a day and a half.
Season: Mount Mei is cooler than the city in summer, and has occasional rime in winter. The pavilion suits autumn best, the season of Wang Bo's preface.
Where to stay: Nanchang has many hotels, and the area near the pavilion is the most convenient. There are also farmhouse inns on Mount Mei.
Evening: the pavilion is lit at night, and the riverside is pleasant for an evening walk.
Meiling
Meiling is a detached mountain mass of the Jiuling range, over 100 km round, touching no other range, a “flying peak”. Its sights are Lion Peak with its classic talus landform, the 5 km string of waterfalls and water mills at Tongyuangang, the boulder field of Shixi Valley and the 170 m granite boulder cave of Panxian. It also has rime, hoar and glaze ice in winter.
