About
The Baizhangji–Feiyun Lake scenic area lies in Wencheng County on the middle and upper Feiyun River south-west of Wenzhou, Zhejiang, 55 km², the largest lake in southern Zhejiang. It has five parts: the gorge gallery, the Baizhang waterfalls, Tianding Lake, the nine peaks of Zhuyang and the home of Liu Ji.
It is in the fifth batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2004.
Travel tips
Getting there: the park is in Wencheng county, Wenzhou, about 100 km from the city. Take a coach from Wenzhou to Wencheng town, then on to Baizhangji and Lake Feiyun. Wenzhou has an airport and high-speed rail.
Layout: the park has five parts, the canyon corridor, the Baizhang waterfall, Tianding Lake, the Zhuyang Nine Peaks and the home village of Liu Ji. The sights are spread out, and are hard to cover without a vehicle.
Baizhangji: the waterfall has three tiers and is one of the highest in China. The first drop is about 207 m. You can watch from viewing platforms or walk down to the foot of the falls.
Lake Feiyun: a large reservoir lake that can be toured by boat, with scenic hills around its shores.
Liu Ji's home: Liu Ji (Liu Bowen) was a statesman and scholar of the early Ming, born in this area. His home village has a memorial hall and shrine.
Time: Baizhangji and Lake Feiyun each need half a day, and two days is right if you include Liu Ji's home village.
Season: spring and summer bring rain and more water in the falls. Autumn is clear, and the falls are lighter in winter.
Where to stay: Wencheng town has the most hotels, and there are guesthouses near the park.
