About
The Shuanglong scenic area on Beishan, 8 km north of Jinhua, Zhejiang, is famous for its caves: Shuanglong Cave, entered lying flat on a boat beneath a low rock arch, Binghu (Ice Pot) Cave with its underground waterfall, and Chaozhen Cave.
It is in the third batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 1994.
Travel tips
Getting there: Shuanglong lies on the northern outskirts of Jinhua. Jinhua has a high-speed rail station, and a bus or taxi to the site takes twenty to thirty minutes.
Main sights: the Shuanglong Cave, Binghu Cave and Chaozhen Cave are linked by paths up and down the hill and form the core of the area.
Shuanglong Cave: the cave has an outer part, which is spacious, and an inner part reached by lying in a small boat and passing through a narrow gap; the boat does not run when the water is high.
Binghu Cave: a waterfall drops from a height into the cave, which is cool and damp; it is not far from Shuanglong Cave and the two are visited together.
Chaozhen Cave: higher up, reached by steps; it has Taoist remains, and those short of stamina can skip it.
Time: half a day covers the three caves; a day if you want to walk more on the hill.
Season: open all year; spring is wetter, when the inner cave may be closed by high water; the caves are cool in summer.
Where to stay: stay in Jinhua city; there is very little lodging near the site.
