About
Shennongyuan (神农源风景名胜区) is a national park of China (eighth batch, designated by the State Council in 2012), located in Dayuan Town, Wannian County, Shangrao, Jiangxi.
The scenic area lies in Dayuan Town, Wannian County, Shangrao, about 20 km from the county town, and is made up of cave systems and sites linked to the origins of rice farming.
The Xianrendong and Diaotonghuan sites lie within it; cultivated rice remains dating to roughly ten thousand years ago were found there, and the sites were listed as national key cultural heritage in 2001. Show caves such as Shenlong Palace and Xianren Cave are open, and the temperature in the Shennong cave stays near 21 degrees Celsius.
Travel tips
About half an hour by car from Wannian, and about two hours from Nanchang or Shangrao. Allow half a day. The caves are cool even in summer, so bring a light jacket; floors are wet.
