Huangling is a mountain village in Jiangwan Town, Wuyuan, founded in the Ming; its Huizhou-style houses rise tier upon tier up the slope. In spring rapeseed flowers cover the terraces, and in autumn every household spreads chillies and grain on racks on the roofs to dry, a custom called shaiqiu ("sunning the autumn"). It was also the home of the Qing ministers Cao Wenzhi and his son Cao Zhenyong.
