About
Mount Fang, in the west of Wenling, Zhejiang, forms the Fangshan–Changyu Dongtian national scenic area together with Changyu Dongtian to the east. It is a mesa of volcanic rock: flat on top and ringed by cliffs, so that it looks square from afar, hence the name (fang, square). The flat-lying layers were laid down by Cretaceous eruptions; erosion and rockfall at the edges have left sheer cliffs, gorges and waterfalls.
It is part of the Fangshan–Changyu Dongtian scenic area, in the sixth batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2005.
Travel tips
Mount Fang: the top is flat like a table, edged by sheer cliffs. A path leads up, with cliffs, waterfalls and valleys to see; the climb needs some stamina.
Getting there: Wenling has a high-speed railway station; Mount Fang is about 15 km from the city, by bus or taxi.
