About

Mount Jianglang, in the city of Jiangshan in Zhejiang near the borders of Fujian and Jiangxi, is a Danxia landform famous for its three huge sandstone pillars.

It is in the fourth batch of national parks of China (national scenic areas) named by the State Council in 2002.

Travel tips

Getting there: Jiangshan station is on the Shanghai–Kunming high-speed line. The scenic area is a little over 20 km south of the city; take a bus or taxi.

The Three Rocks: Lang Peak, Ya Peak and Ling Peak, three huge rock pillars, are the main sight. Walking from the foot of the hill to the base of the rocks takes about an hour.

One-Thread Sky: a narrow cleft about 300 m long between Ya Peak and Ling Peak that you can walk through.

Climbing Lang Peak: steps cut into the rock face lead to the top. They are very steep, with handrails; not for anyone afraid of heights.

Other sights: Jianglang Academy, Kaiming Temple and Huixian Rock lie along the way.

Time: half a day for the Three Rocks and One-Thread Sky; most of a day or a full day if you also climb Lang Peak.

Season: spring and autumn are best. Summer is hot; in rain the steps are slippery and the summit route may be closed.

Nearby: the old town of Nianbadu, south of Jiangshan, is often combined with a visit.
