About
The Badaling–Ming Tombs Scenic Area, north-west of central Beijing, was named in the first batch of national scenic areas by the State Council in 1982. It has two parts, about 20 km apart:
Badaling: the Great Wall at Badaling in Yanqing District and Juyongguan Pass in Changping District, the best-known stretch of the Great Wall.
Ming Tombs: the tombs of thirteen Ming emperors below Tianshou Mountain in northern Changping, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2003 as part of “Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties”.
Travel tips
Getting there: for Badaling, take the Beijing–Zhangjiakou high-speed railway to Badaling Great Wall Station, or suburban line S2; for the Ming Tombs, take metro Changping Line and a bus to Changling or Dingling.
Time: both can be done in a day, Badaling in the morning and the tombs in the afternoon; allow a full day for the tombs and the Sacred Way.
Season: spring and autumn are best; Badaling is crowded in summer, and windy in winter.
