About
The Mount Wangwu–Mount Yuntai scenic area is at the southern end of the Taihang Mountains in north-western Henan. It has two parts, Mount Wangwu in Jiyuan and Mount Yuntai (Henan) in Xiuwu County, Jiaozuo, and was in the third batch of national scenic areas in 1994. The two are about 100 km apart.
Mount Wangwu is a Taoist mountain; Tang Taoist texts ranked its cave first among the ten great grotto-heavens, and it is one of the two mountains in the fable of the Foolish Old Man who moved the mountains. Mount Yuntai is known for gorges and waterfalls; the walls of Red Stone Gorge are purple-red quartz sandstone, the signature landscape of the Yuntaishan Global Geopark.
Travel tips
Getting there: the two are not on one route. Go to Mount Yuntai from Jiaozuo and to Mount Wangwu from Jiyuan; Zhengzhou is the nearest big city, with an airport and high-speed trains.
Time: a day each, about two days for both.
