About
Hanxianyan (汉仙岩风景名胜区) is a national park of China (ninth batch, designated by the State Council in 2017), located in Junmenling Town, Huichang County, Ganzhou, Jiangxi.
The area is in Junmenling Town in the south of Huichang County, Ganzhou, near where Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi meet. It centres on the Danxia landforms of Hanxianyan, with the Hanxian Lake formed by the Yangziyan Reservoir nearby.
The name comes from a legend that Han Zhongli, one of the Eight Immortals, practised Taoism here and became immortal. The cliffs are red sandstone and conglomerate, regarded as a typical Danxia landscape of southern Jiangxi, and were once called the "first mountain of Qiannan" and "little Penglai of the south". Caves and rock chambers hold inscriptions and Taoist remains.
The site is at Junmenling, south of the county, not near Huichang town. The Hanxian Lake scenic corridor in the same county is a reservoir-type water-conservancy scenic area, close by but a separate site.
Travel tips
About 2 hours by expressway from Ganzhou to Huichang, then roughly 30 km south to Junmenling. Half a day is enough. Spring and autumn suit best; summer is hot, and the stone steps are slippery after rain.
