About
The Lintong Mount Li–Terracotta Army scenic area is in Lintong District, Xi’an, Shaanxi, and was in the first batch of national scenic areas in 1982. It has two parts about 7 km apart: Mount Li and Huaqing Pool, and the mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor with the Terracotta Army.
Mount Li is a spur on the northern side of the Qinling. Hot springs at its foot drew one dynasty after another to build palaces here, the Tang Huaqing Palace being the best known. The First Emperor’s mausoleum lies at the northern foot of the mountain; the Terracotta Army pits, a little over a kilometre east of the mound, belong to the tomb complex and were inscribed on the World Heritage List with it in 1987.
Travel tips
Getting there: tourist buses from the east square of Xi’an Railway Station run past Huaqing Palace to the Terracotta Army, about an hour; or take Metro Line 9 to Lintong and change to a bus.
Time: both in a day, about half a day for the Terracotta Army and the mausoleum and half a day for Huaqing Palace and Mount Li.
Stamps
In 1983 China Post issued T.88 “Terracotta Figures of the Qin Mausoleum”, four stamps.
