The Forest of Steles Museum lies just east of the south gate of the city wall in Xi’an, Shaanxi. It grew from the Tang Kaicheng Stone Classics, moved here for safekeeping in the Northern Song, and holds steles, epitaphs and stone carvings of many dynasties, among them works by the calligraphers Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan; it is one of the largest collections of ancient inscriptions in China. Its stone sculpture hall shows four of the Six Steeds of Zhaoling: Teqinbiao, Qingzhui, Shifachi and Baitiwu. The other two are in the Penn Museum in the United States.
