Shanhaiguan, northeast of central Qinhuangdao between the Yan Mountains and the Bohai Sea, is a major walled pass on the eastern Ming Great Wall; its east gate tower bears the plaque “First Pass Under Heaven”. Nearby are Laolongtou, where the wall meets the sea, the Jiaoshan Great Wall and the Mengjiangnü Temple.
