South of the Luo River in Yanshi District, Luoyang, the Erlitou Site is a large capital city from the time of the Xia and Shang. Excavations revealed a palace city, palace foundations, a grid of roads and bronze-casting workshops, and many scholars regard it as a late Xia capital. The Erlitou Xia Capital Site Museum stands beside it.
