Chagan Lake, in the Qian Gorlos Mongol Autonomous County of Songyuan, is one of the largest natural lakes in Jilin; chagan means white in Mongolian. Liao emperors held spring fishing and hunting gatherings in this area, and the winter fishing, hauling nets through holes cut in the ice, carries on that old custom and is the lake's most distinctive sight.
