The Suobuya Stone Forest lies in Taiyanghe Township in the north of Enshi City, Hubei, and is a national 4A scenic area. Its pillars formed as Ordovician limestone, laid down on an ancient sea floor, was slowly dissolved; their layered bands are plain to see, and the rock holds fossils such as nautiloids. Most of the pillars stand among dense woods, quite unlike the open landscape of the Stone Forest in Yunnan.
