About
Lop People’s Village (罗布人村寨风景名胜区) is a national park of China (eighth batch, designated by the State Council in 2012), located in Yuli County, Bayingol Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang.
The scenic area is in Yuli County, Bayingol Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, near the lower Tarim River, about 35 km southwest of Yuli town and about 85 km from Korla, and is centred on a traditional Lop village.
The Lop people lived around Lop Nur and the lower Tarim, living by fishing, gathering and herding, in houses of reed and poplar wood and using dugout canoes hollowed from poplar trunks. After the river shifted and Lop Nur dried up, some settled along the Tarim. The site keeps old houses and canoes as a record of that life, among poplar woods and river wetland.
Travel tips
Two to three hours by road from Korla via Yuli County; half a day is enough. Autumn, when the poplar leaves turn yellow, is the main season. Summer is hot and dry with biting insects, so sun protection is needed.
