Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
Ha Long Bay lies in Quang Ninh Province in northern Vietnam, on the north-west shore of the Gulf of Tonkin. Nearly two thousand limestone islands and pillars rise from the sea, a karst landscape drowned by the ocean, and many hold caves; the paired Fighting Cocks Islet is the bay’s emblem. It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1994 and extended in 2023 as Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago.
