Zhenbeitai stands on Hongshan hill north of Yulin, a Great Wall watchtower built in the Wanli reign of the Ming. Its four brick tiers step in as they rise, and it is among the largest beacon platforms along the wall, called the “First Tower of the Great Wall”. Nearby are the horse-trading town of Yimacheng and the Hongshi Gorge.
