Beichuan is China's only Qiang autonomous county. In the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake the old county town of Qushan was almost entirely destroyed; its ruins have been left as they were, with an earthquake memorial museum nearby. The new county town, Yongchang, was rebuilt in Qiang style and presents Qiang folk culture.
