The Zhenbeibu Western Film Studio on the western outskirts of Yinchuan was founded by the writer Zhang Xianliang amid the ruins of two frontier forts of the Ming and Qing. Films such as Red Sorghum, A Chinese Odyssey and New Dragon Gate Inn were shot here.
