Xinghua Raised Fields, Jiangsu 江苏兴化垛田
In the Lixiahe wetlands of Xinghua, early farmers dug mud from the marshes and piled it into raised plots surrounded by water on all sides. In spring the plots are covered with rapeseed flowers and small boats wind along the channels. The Xinghua raised fields are a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.
