Lian Island lies in Haizhou Bay off Lianyungang. With an area of 7.57 square kilometers it is the largest island in Jiangsu; it has an eastern and a western part and is joined to the mainland by a sea dike about 6.7 kilometers long. The island is thickly wooded and has bathing beaches such as Dashawan and Sumawan.
