The Confucius Temple of Nanjing, dedicated to Confucius, was first built under the Song. It faces the inner Qinhuai River, which serves as its ritual pool. The nearby Jiangnan Examination Hall was a venue of the imperial examinations under the Ming and Qing, and the streets, painted pleasure boats and night views along the river in front of the temple make up the Qinhuai scenic belt.
