Nanhu in Tangshan was once ground that sank above the workings of the Kailuan coal mines and filled with water; it has been turned into a central ecological park of several connected lakes, including Taohuatan, Longquanwan and Qinglongze, and once hosted a World Horticultural Expo. The scenic area also includes the Kailuan National Mine Park, which preserves the industrial heritage of a modern coal mine.
