Shimao Site, Shenmu, Shaanxi 陕西神木石峁遗址
On the loess ridges near Gaojiabao Town in Shenmu, the Shimao Site is a large stone-walled city of the late Longshan period, more than 4,000 years old, with three rings of stone walls: the palace platform, the inner city and the outer city. Its gates, barbicans and stone-carved faces set into the walls show the scale of an early state in northern China.
